Husband and wife both died at their home in Esteban Cantu, Mexico. Mary Robbins died of a heart arrhythmia, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Gil died April 5 of prostate cancer, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Gil and Mary, who were married 59 years, had both been professional musicians in the 1950s and '60s – Gil having been a member of the folk band the Highwaymen.
Mary had once treated herself holistically to beat colon cancer, reports the Associated Press, which quoted her actor son Tim as saying she "had a calm and cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart."
Of his father, Robbins told the L.A. Times: "He was very charming, open and funny. He had a real strong moral center; he spoke up for what he believed in."
